Brandi Carlile Welcomes Mavis Staples At Minnesota State Fair

Brandi Carlile shared the Grandstand stage with Mavis Staples on Saturday at the Minnesota State Fair. Following her opening performance, Staples returned during Carlile’s set to cover “Friendship” by Mavis’ father, the late Pops Staples.
Carlile’s concert also featured Savannah Conley joining on a cover of Elton John’s “Saturday Night’s Alright For Fighting” to close out the show. The night previously saw Carlile and her band mates roll through material from last year’s Grammy Award-winning album, By The Way, I Forgive You and favorites from other records. The set also saw covers fo Joni Mitchell’s “A Case Of You” and Led Zeppelin’s “Babe, I’m Gonna Leave You.”
