Brandi Carlile Joins Jim James For Bob Dylan Cover In Seattle
My Morning Jacket frontman Jim James continued his tour in support of his solo album Eternally Even with a performance Tuesday at The Neptune Theatre in Seattle. James once again performed a cover song without his band to begin the encore, but last night he was joined by Brandi Carlile on a Bob Dylan classic.
The main set stuck to the tour’s script of offering the nine songs that make up Eternally Even dotted with selections from his 2013 solo LP Regions Of Light And Sound And God and a cover of The Velvet Underground’s “I’m Set Free.” James’ backing band featuring the three members of opening act Twin Limb kept with the tour’s trend of hanging back at the start of the encore.
James’ trend of debuting solo renditions of cover songs also continued, but it wasn’t exactly “solo” as local musician Brandi Carlile emerged to add vocals to Bob Dylan’s “The Times They Are A-Changin.’” The Regions tracks “Of The Mother Again” and “State Of The Art (A.E.I.O.U.)” surrounded a take on James’ side project The New Basement Tapes’ “Down On The Bottom” to close out the remainder of the show.
