boygenius said they are “going away for the foreseeable future,” during an intimate acoustic concert at the Smell in Los Angeles on Thursday. Pitchfork reported the news and confirmed with representatives for the supergroup made up of Phoebe Bridgers, Julien Baker and Lucy Dacus that they are going on hiatus.
A TikTok user captured Baker saying, “Have we spent too long in a bus together?” She then screamed and added, “We were separated at birth, it’s OK.”

Singer-songwriters Phoebe Bridgers, Julien Baker and Lucy Dacus formed boygenius in 2018. The trio released a self-titled debut EP that year.
Bridgers, Baker and Dacus went on to release solo albums Punisher (2020), Little Oblivions (2021) and Home Videos (2021) respectively before reuniting to release boygenius’ debut LP, The Record, in 2023 followed by a companion EP, The Rest.
The Record is up for two Grammys at the upcoming 2024 awards — airing Sunday on CBS — including the coveted Album Of The Year. Singles from the album garnered the group two additional Grammy nods including Record Of The Year for “Not Strong Enough.”
boygenius is expected to perform another show at the Smell tonight. Check out a clip of boygenius performing Bridgers’ “Graceland Too,” which featured Dacus on lead vocals, from Thursday’s concert in L.A. below:
