A pair of New Jersey icons shared the stage at Madison Square Garden last night when Bon Jovi brought out Bruce Springsteen to close out their residency at Madison Square Garden. Introduced by Jon Bon Jovi as “the king of the great state of New Jersey,” The Boss emerged to a roar from the sold-out crowd and teamed up with the band for “Who Says You Can’t Go Home” before leading a run through his own “The Promised Land.”

The guest appearance capped the ninth and final show of Bon Jovi’s MSG run, which launched the band’s Forever Tour and marked their return to the road following Jon Bon Jovi’s vocal cord surgery. The triumphant finale came just days after the group was forced to cut their penultimate Garden show short after the singer came down with a sinus infection.

“Don’t throw away your ticket stubs I’m going to figure something out, okay. Just hang onto it, I’m going to figure out how to reschedule,” Jon Bon Jovi promised fans on Thursday before leaving the stage.

Bon Jovi’s MSG finale, at least for now, began with a 15-song main set. The band didn’t open with a cover of The Beatles’ “With A Little Help From My Friends,” as they did at their previous MSG shows. Instead, Bon Jovi launched the Sunday night show with “Beautiful Drug.” Springsteen wasn’t the only guest at The Garden, as The War and Treaty joined the group mid-set for the live debut of the Forever (Legendary Edition) standout “The People’s House.”

The encore started with performances of hits “I’ll Be There For You” and “Bad Medicine” before Springsteen came out. “Ladies and gentlemen, the one and only Bruce Springsteen,” Jon Bon Jovi exclaimed as The Boss took the stage. “The king of the great state of New Jersey. Who says you can’t go home?”

The “Who Says You Can’t Go Home” duet was followed by Springsteen counting in “The Promised Land.” Jon Bon Jovi attempted to play harmonica at the beginning of the latter, but threw the instrument into the crowd after realizing it was in the wrong key.
