Bob Weir Dusts Off ‘Eternity’ With Wolf Bros In Portland

The first-ever tour resumed on Monday night at Keller Auditorium in Portland, Oregon. Bob Weir, Don Was and Jay Lane continued to dig into Weir’s back catalog from his various projects including the Grateful Dead, RatDog and his 2016 solo album Blue Mountain. Monday’s first set included a big surprise as Bobby led his trio through a song he hadn’t performed in over 16 years.

Bob Weir And Wolf Bros kicked off last night’s show with “Cassidy” and then played “Friend Of The Devil.” Up next was the first “Eternity” since a RatDog show on October 15, 2002. Weir wrote “Eternity” with Rob Wasserman during sessions for Wasserman’s Trios album and used lyrics by blues legend Willie Dixon. Bobby premiered the song with the late bassist during one of their duo shows in 1990. The Grateful Dead debuted the song in February 1993 and it remained in steady rotation through Jerry Garcia’s death in 1995. Bob Weir And Wolf Bros kept the tour debuts coming with Bob Dylan’s “Queen Jane Approximately” and Grateful Dead classic “Looks Like Rain” before the band ended the frame with another version of RatDog’s “Ashes & Glass” that included “Don’t Let Go” within.

The three-piece began the second set in Portland with the Blue Mountain gem “Only A River.” Next came a huge “Playing In The Band” sequence that bookended the rest of the closing stanza. Weir, Lane and Was worked from “Playin'” into a cover of The Beatles’ “Tomorrow Never Knows.” Last night’s second set also featured takes on “The Music Never Stopped,” “Shakey Ground,” “Turn On Your Love Light” and “Stella Blue” before “Playing In The Band Reprise.” Bobby and his band went on to encore with “Going Down The Road Feelin’ Bad” and “Touch Of Grey.” Watch fan-shot videos from last night’s show:
