Bob Weir & Sammy Hagar Take ‘Bad Motor Scooter’ For Joyride In Las Vegas

Bob Weir has spent his time between Dead & Company’s Dead Forever residency shows at the Sphere by going to see live music in Las Vegas. Weir recently saw Post Malone with Jelly Roll and Sierra Ferrell at Allegiant Stadium and last night Bobby sat in with his old friend Sammy Hagar at Dolby Live at Park MGM.

Hagar is currently in the midst of his own residency in Las Vegas. The Red Rocker is backed by an ace band that includes his former Van Halen bandmate Michael Anthony on bass, along with Joe Satriani on guitar, Kenny Aronoff on drums and Rai Thistlethwayte on keyboards and guitar.

The setlist mainly focus on Hagar-era Van Halen songs, with the exception of Anthony singing lead on the residency’s first “Runnin’ With The Devil.” Weir came out toward the end of the main set and utilized Hagar’s Gibson Explorer Red Rocker guitar during his guest spot. Weir assisted on a performance of “Bad Motor Scooter,” by Hagar’s pre-Van Halen band Montrose.

“Bad Motor Scooter” appeared on Montrose’s 1973 self-titled debut album. On social media, Hagar wrote about the experience of playing with Weir in Vegas:

“Tonight in [Las Vegas], start of the second week of the residency [at Park MGM], my favorite show so far. [Bob Weir] joined us for the 1973 first song I ever wrote in my life [‘Bad Motor Scooter’] from [Montrose], we took a long walk in the woods to say the least and found our way.”
