Sweetwater Music Hall in Mill Valley, California hosted an all-star benefit concert Wednesday night in celebration of Music Heals International’s fifth anniversary. Grateful Dead guitarist Bob Weir was among the many performers who participated in last night’s charity event.
Others who performed Wednesday at Sweetwater include David Nelson, Melvin Seals, Steve Kimock, Jay Lane, Robin Sylvester, Dan “Lebo” Lebowitz, DJ Logic, Jason Crosby, Dave Ellis, Sunshine Becker and Jeff Pehrson. Nelson led a set as various musicians took the stage.
Weir emerged to join Nelson and others on the Dead’s “Friend Of The Devil.” Nelson and Weir then led the ensemble through Johnny Otis’ “Willie and the Hand Jive” with Matt Kelly adding harmonica. Next up was the tender Grateful Dead favorite “Ripple.”
Nelson and others left the stage for Weir and his RatDog band mates, Lane, Sylvester, Kimock, Kelly and Ellis as well as DJ Logic for a rendition of the latter-Dead staple “Corrina.” Following a romp through the instrumental “Juke,” Weir also led the group through Willie Dixon’s blues staple “Little Red Rooster” and a sentimental offering of the Dead’s “Standing On The Moon.”
The audience at Sweetwater and those watching the livestream at home then saw Weir leading the collective on a closing rendition of the Grateful Dead’s classic pairing of “China Cat Sunflower” and “I Know You Rider.” Watch the entire benefit concert via Sweetwater Music Hall below:
