Bob Weir welcomed his Dead & Company bandmate John Mayer and The Wolfpack horn and string section for the complete second set and encore at the concert at the Greek Theatre in Los Angles last night. The set got underway with a 14-minute “Shakedown Street.”
“Shakedown Street” originally appears on the Grateful Dead’s December 1978 album of the same name. The band had premiered the song live earlier that year on August 31 at Red Rocks. “Shakedown Street” remained a staple for the rest of GD’s tenure and was played at their final concert at Chicago’s Soldier Field on July 9, 1995.

The song has been a staple in Bobby Weir And Wolf Bros repertoire as well. At the Greek in L.A., Bobby led the ensemble through the tune with Mayer joining him on the refrain and adding auto-wah guitar. The Wolf Pack horns — trombonist Adam Theis, trumpeter Brian Switzer and woodwind specialist Sheldon Brown — also gave the disco-tinged tune a jazzy flavor.
