Last month, it was announced that legendary singer-songwriter Bob Dylan had been awarded the Nobel Prize In Literature. Dylan is the first American to be given the prestigious honor since author Toni Morrison in 1993. Today, The Swedish Academy revealed Bob will not show up in person to pick up his prize.

The Academy will present the 2016 Nobel Prize for literature on December 10th in Stockholm. As per the AP, Dylan told The Academy, “he wishes he could receive the prize personally, but other commitments make it unfortunately impossible.” It took Bob a while to even acknowledge the honor, yet he did so late last month in an interview with The Guardian. When asked whether he’d attend the ceremony, Dylan told The Guardian “absolutely” with the disclaimer, “If it’s at all possible.”

Bob Dylan is being given the Nobel Prize in Literature, “for having created new poetic expressions within the great American song tradition” read an announcement on October 13. The 75-year-old iconic folk musician has previously earned Grammy Awards, an Academy Award and a Golden Globe Award. He has also been inducted into the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame and earned Pulitzer Prize and been given the Presidential Medal of Freedom.
