Chris Thile and Punch Brothers began the second season of The Energy Curfew Music Hour podcast with special guests Billy Strings and Jesca Hoop on Saturday night (January 11). The musical variety show hosted by Audible was taped at New York City’s Minetta Lane Theatre.

The Energy Curfew Music Hour was created by Chris Thile and his wife Claire Coffee and is described as “a musical variety show that invites audiences to join them in a near future when diminishing resources and extreme weather have ushered in a worldwide effort to ration electricity.” Saturday’s concert was a sold-out affair.

Jesca Hoop was Punch Brothers’ first guest on Saturday night. The guitarist/singer-songwriter starred on “New York City,” “Sudden Light,” “Death Spiral” and “Sioux Falls.”

Billy Strings emerged next and led Punch Brothers through “Escanaba,” “Make Me A Pallet On Your Floor” and “Malfunction Junction.” Hoop then returned for “Lyre Bird” before both guests were featured on “Richard Petty” and “Isn’t Over.”

Strings was featured on an encore jam after the main Energy Curfew Music Hour was finished. The Michigan-bred guitarist led Punch Brothers through “Doin’ My Time,” “99 Years Is Almost For Life,” “Stone Walls & Steel Bars” and a version of “New Camptown Races” that included “Pretty Daughter” within.
