Watch Billie Eilish Perform Christmas Classic With Christian McBride & FINNEAS On ‘SNL’

Billie Eilish made her third visit in four years to Saturday Night Live as the musical guest on this past weekend’s episode of the long-running sketch comedy show. Eilish played both “What Was I Made For?” from the Barbie soundtrack and the Judy Garland holiday song “Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas” on the final SNL of the year with renowned jazz bassist Christian McBride among the musicians who backed her.

The pop star was introduced before her performance of the Grammy-nominated “What Was I Made For?” by host and Barbie co-star Kate McKinnon as well as the film’s director, Greta Gerwig. Eilish’s brother and longtime collaborator FINNEAS accompanied her on piano. A string section and Christian McBride joined the pair as childhood photos and videos of female cast members were displayed behind them.

Billie Eilish went on to deliver a jazz-tinged interpretation of “Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas.” Eilish enlisted Christian McBride, FINNEAS and drummer Andrew Marshall as her band for the song co-written by Hugh Martin and Ralph Blaine. “Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas” was originally sung by Judy Garland in the 1944 musical Meet Me In St. Louis.

“Playing on SNL was a total thrill,” wrote McBride in a statement. “Billie Eilish has become one of my favorite people to work with, and her entire family are the kindest people. Also, seeing everyone in the SNL band – many of whom are my good friends – was like a family reunion.”

Eilish also displayed her comedic chops by appearing in a pair of skits. Billie contributed to the pre-recorded musical sketch “Tampon Farm” and teamed with McKinnon on “Whiskers R We.”
