Big Thief’s Somersault Slide 360 Tour of Europe began last week and landed Monday in Berlin, Germany. The band’s rollout of new material on the tour extended to last night’s encore and the premiere of the song, “Pterodactyl.”
The first show of the tour in Oslo, Norway, saw the introduction of Big Thief originals “What I Only Dream Of,” “Christmas Day” and “Mr. Man.” The band’s setlist in Stockholm, Sweden, featured the arrival of “Terrifying” and “Casual Touch.” Big Thief premiered the song “Where Will We Go” in Copenhagen, Denmark, ahead of the Berlin show.
Big Thief — guitarist/vocalist Adrianne Lenker, guitarist Buck Meek and drummer James Krivchenia (with touring bassist Joshua Crumbly) — waited until the final song of their show at Berlin’s Columbiahalle to debut “Pterodactyl.”
“For this last song, we’re going to do a really fun experiment and play something we haven’t played and that we also are still learning,” Lenker said while introducing “Pterodactyl.”
