Beck reimagined “Ride Lonesome” into a new duet with Sierra Ferrell, turning his acoustic single into an even more affecting collaboration. The new version arrives as Beck’s Ride Lonesome Tour draws near, with the North American run set to go coast-to-coast from September 16 through Halloween (October 31).
Originally released in April, the gentle “Ride Lonesome” picks up where Beck’s 2015 album Morning Phase and its spiritual predecessor, 2002’s Sea Change, left off. The reflective, country-leaning ballad is built around acoustic guitar and a mournful, road-worn mood.
Sierra Ferrell was the perfect pick to accompany Beck on the new version. Ferrell’s powerful voice serves as a striking counterpoint to Beck’s more laidback singing. The reimagined take keeps the song’s lonely, late-night feel intact.
The Ride Lonesome Tour is a 25-date North American run and it opens with a sold-out show at Vancouver’s Queen Elizabeth Theatre on September 16. The tour includes stops at such historic venues as the Santa Barbara Bowl, the Greek Theatre in Los Angeles, Colorado’s Red Rocks Amphitheatre, two nights at The Masonic in San Francisco, Massey Hall in Toronto and Brooklyn Paramount, before closing on Halloween at The Truth in Nashville. Diana Silvers is set to support on all dates.
