AXS TV To Premiere Santana ‘Live At The 1982 US Festival’

On September 4, 1982 Santana played a memorable set as part of the inaugural US Festival at Glen Helen Regional Park in San Bernardino, California. Cable network AXS TV will air the full set including never before seen footage this Sunday, June 10 at 10 p.m. ET.

The US Festival was put together by Apple co-founder Steve Wozniak in conjunction with legendary concert promoter Bill Graham. Fleetwood Mac, Jackson Browne, the Grateful Dead, Eddie Money, The Cars, Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers, The Ramones, Talking Heads and The Police were a handful of the other acts that performed over the course of Labor Day Weekend in 1982 at the US Festival. Temperatures reportedly topped 100°F, yet an estimated 425,000 attended as per Ultimate Classic Rock. A second installment was held in 1983.

Famed guitarist Carlos Santana led his band through a 14-song performance at the 1982 US Festival. The group played a number of the best-known songs from their repertoire including “Black Magic Woman/Gypsy Queen,” “Oye Como Va,” “Jingo” and “Hold On.” Keyboardist Herbie Hancock was Santana’s special guest on “Incident At Neshabur.”
