On Thursday and Friday night Perpetual Groove returned to the stage at the Georgia Theatre in Athens, Georgia ending an “indefinite hiatus” that spanned over two years. The quartet played a pair of hiatus-busting sets on Thursday and followed that up with an acoustic rooftop performance on Friday and two electric sets inside the venue which were webcast live. Audience recordings of both shows are available for our streaming/downloading pleasure thanks to taper Joel Hudson of JamLive.

Thursday’s show both opened and closed with cover debuts -Pearl Jam’s “Release” and “Trouble” by TV On The Radio. Along the way guitarist Brock Butler, keyboardist Matt McDonald, bassist Adam Perry and drummer Albert Suttle worked in such beloved originals as “Steely Man,” “Green Tea,” “A Day The Way” and “Speed Queen.” Download Joel’s recording here or stream below:

Friday’s Rooftop Set began with just Butler and McDonald treating fans to “My Favorite Color” and “Dust” before the rest of the band came out for the rest of the set which featured a mix of originals and covers including “No Decorations,” “La Casa Bien,” “I Know What I Know” (Paul Simon) and “Float On” (Modest Mouse). Perpetual Groove came out strong for the first of two electric sets on Friday with “It Starts Where It Ends” > “Three Weeks.” The first post-hiatus versions of “Robot Waltz” and “Sweet Oblivious Antidote” were among the other songs PGroove played during Friday’s opening set. Set Two featured a cover of LCD Soundsystem’s “All My Friends” and many originals including “Mr. Transistor” and “Teakwood Betz.” An “Only Always” > “and Everything” encore brought the shows to a close.
