Arctic Monkeys Tackle The Strokes In New York City

Forest Hills Stadium’s summer concert series continued on Tuesday night with a headlining show from Arctic Monkeys. Like a number of other acts that have played the historic tennis stadium over the last handful of years, the English rock act nodded to their surroundings by offering up an area-appropriate cover during their encore.
After delivering a 17-song main set that saw them lean-heavy on material from their last two studio outputs Tranquility Base Hotel & Casino, which came out earlier this year, and 2013’s AM, the Arctic Monkeys had something special in store to help close out their show. After a take on “Star Treatment” from their latest record the band’s frontman Alex Turner introduced their next selection by saying “since we couldn’t think of a tennis song we are going to try this.” The four-piece act then launched into a spot-on rendition of The Strokes’ “Is This It,” the title-track from the NYC-based band’s 2001 debut.
Turner has previously spoken about how the New York City band had a huge influence on him and even nodded to them on the opening track to Tranquility Base Hotel & Casino with the line “I just wanted to be one of the Strokes; now look at the mess you made me make.”
