Andrew Bird Welcomes Madison Cunningham For ‘Are You Serious’ Gems & More In Toronto

Andrew Bird brought his Outside Problems Tour to History Toronto on Sunday. The acclaimed singer-songwriter welcomed tourmate and Inside Problems collaborator Madison Cunningham in both his main set and encore.

Viruosic violinist Andrew Bird got his set underway with “Make A Picture” off his 2022 album, Inside Problems. Bird dipped heavily from the LP also performing “Lone Didion,” Atomized,” “Eight,” “Underlands,” the title track and more. The first half of the set also saw Bird offering songs from his Grammy-nominated 2019 LP, My Finest Work Yet, including “Bloodless” and “Sisyphus.”

Recent Grammy winner and guitarist Madison Cunningham joined Andrew, bassist Alan Hampton and drummer Ted Poor beginning on “Left Handed Kisses.” Bird and Cunningham gathered around a single mic to duet on the bluesy number off Andrew’s 2016 album, Are You Serious, which originally features Fiona Apple. Madison stayed on for “Lusitania,” “Manifest,” “Night’s Falling,” and “Oh No.”

Bird and company went it alone to close the set with “Anonanimal” and the title track to his 2013 EP, I Want To See Pulaski At Night. Andrew and his band returned for a two-song encore beginning with My Finest Work Yet’s “Never Fall Apart.” Cunningham then came back to duet with Andrew once again on the Are Your Serious favorite “Capsized.”
