André 3000 appeared as a guest on Tuesday’s episode of The Late Show With Stephen Colbert. After speaking with host Stephen Colbert, André 3000 performed a song off his recently released solo album, New Blue Sun.
The all-instrumental New Blue Sun was influenced by New Age, ambient and jazz music and marked a dramatic stylistic shift for the Outkast co-founder. André 3000 spoke about including a warning on the album cover that it contained no rapping. The interview also covered his 20-year interest in wind instruments, which served as the basis for his first full-length album in 17 years.

Last night’s Late Show appearance followed André 3000’s announcement of the upcoming New Blue Sun Live Tour that will see André “3000” Benjamin backed by New Blue Sun co-producer Carlos Niño as well as Nate Mercereau, Surya Botofasina and Deantoni Parks.
The interview also touched on the lengthy titles for the songs on New Blue Sun. André 3000 revealed an experience with ayahuasca inspired the title for the track, “That Night in Hawaii When I Turned into a Panther and Started Making These Low Register Purring Tones That I Couldn’t Control … Sh¥t Was Wild.”
