Amanda Shires is featured in a recent installment of Amoeba Music’s “What’s In My Bag?” video series. Shires shows off what she bought during a recent trip to the Ameoba Music record store in Hollywood.

The singer-songwriter starts by trying to fit a giant Harry Styles poster into her bag. She then starts her musical picks with Bob Wills and his Texas Playboys’ 1976 live album, In Concert. Amanda, who played with Wills’ band after his death, noted Bob worked with Cindy Walker, the first female songwriter Shires ever heard. “I see myself in that music, in her, and that’s why I love Bob Wills,” Shires said. Next up was The Steel Guitar Hall Of Fame. “When I’m trying to get better at music I listen to steel guitars because they’re to me the most difficult instrument to play,” she explained.

Shires went on to choose Leonard Cohen’s Death Of A Ladies Man and mentioned she hopes Cohen’s estate gives her the masters of the album to reenvision the LP. “His [original] idea was for other people to sing the songs,” Amanda noted. She also celebrated the holiday season by picking Vince Guaraldi Trio’s A Charlie Brown Christmas. “This one just makes you feel good,” the Nashville resident stated. Additionally, Amanda Shires selected a handful of non-musical items including Ectogasm socks, a Ruth Bader Ginsburg Air Freshener and Harry Styles Prayer Candle.
