Amanda Shires Announces 1st New Album In 3 Years ‘Nobody’s Girl’

Amanda Shires announced a new album, Nobody’s Girl, arriving on September 26 through ATO Records. The singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist also shared the lead single, “A Way It Goes.”

Nobody’s Girl follows Shires’ 2022 LP, Take It Like a Man, produced by Lawrence Rothman. Amanda teamed back up with Rothman for Nobody’s Girl, which “explores themes of heartbreak and loss, resilience, self-discovery and empowerment,” as per a press release.

“Nobody’s Girl is what came after the wreckage, the silence, the rebuilding,” Shires stated. “It’s about standing in the aftermath of a life you thought would last forever and realizing no one is coming to save you.” The album is Amanda’s first following her divorce from Jason Isbell.

Shires and Rothman captured Nobody’s Girl at Sound Emporium Studios in Nashville with drummers Fred Eltringham and Julian Dorio, bassist Dominic Davis, keyboardist Peter Levin and guitarist Zach Setchfield. Rothman also contributed guitar. Additional sessions at Rothman Recorders in Los Angeles saw Jay Bellerose (drums), Pino Palladino (bass), Jimbo Hart (bass) and Joe Kennedy (piano, guitar) contributing to the record.

Previewing Nobody’s Girl is the Shires/Rothman co-write “A Way It Goes.” Press materials further detailed the album opener:

“The track’s understated, soaring arrangement showcases Amanda’s delicate vocals and vulnerable lyrics. Amanda sings, ‘Spent a year looking inward and healing, made some new friends, don’t ask about the deep end. Even I couldn’t believe it when I felt my heart sprouting feathers, and I caught myself dreaming again.’”

“A Way It Goes” arrived with a music video directed by Taylor G. Kelly (Kelsea Ballerini, Brittney Spencer) and shot outside Nashville. Watch below:
