ALO :: 2.24-25.17 :: The Fillmore :: San Francisco, CA
A tradition continued at The Fillmore on Friday and Saturday, where ALO once again brought their annual Tour d’Amour to the historic San Francisco venue for a series of guest-filled performances. This time around the quartet played three shows at The Fillmore including a Saturday matinee for kids. Friday night’s concert featured each and every song from ALO’s now decade-old Roses & Clover LP. The first set contained the initial seven Roses & Clover tracks in order. When the quartet returned for the second set they finished off the complete performance of the album including “Lady Loop” with members of opening act Moon Hooch and takes on Roses & Clover bonus tracks “Country Camper” and “Haji Memashite.” ALO then covered “Bizarre Love Triangle” by New Order and took a stab at “Room For Bloomin'” off 2012’s Sounds Like This to end the second set. For the encore, the band served up Curtis Mayfield’s “So In Love” and Time Expander classic “Time Is Of The Essence.”
Saturday began with a singalong matinee concert for kids. ALO mixed originals that appealed to youngsters such as “Plastic Bubble” and “Barbeque” with fun covers including “Yellow Submarine” by The Beatles. On Saturday night, the foursome pulled from all eras of their lengthy career over the course of two sets and an encore. Vocalist Jennifer Hartswick emerged during the first set for the song Janis Joplin turned into a big hit, “Piece Of My Heart.” ALO’s second set included an adventurous “Shapeshifter” with a “Harlem Nocture” interlude and a wild “Barbeque” > “1999” (Prince) > “Barbeque” featuring all four members of opening act Twiddle. The Vermont quartet has been covering “Barbeque” since their early days. Photographer Susan Weiand was at The Fillmore, view her gallery below as well as videos from both nights:
