Today, a memorial service for legendary New Orleans composer/musician/performer Allen Toussaint, who died earlier this month while on tour in Europe, will be held at the Orpheum Theatre in his hometown.

Mourners started lining up at the Orpheum last night and visitation has already started. The memorial service begins at 11 a.m. CT and can be heard via WWOZ. “We are all still shocked by the loss of a great man, musician and New Orleanian. WWOZ is honored that the Toussaint family is giving us the opportunity to share the tribute to Allen with those who loved him, yet were unable to attend today’s ceremony,” said Dwayne Breashears, Program Director of WWOZ.

Dr. John, Trombone Shorty, Elvis Costello, Preservation Hall Jazz Band and Boz Scaggs are among the artists who will perform or share remarks at the service.
