Adrian Belew Discusses His First Meeting With David Bowie

Legendary guitarist Adrian Belew is among the many artists who have shared tales involving David Bowie, the iconic musician who died on Sunday. We’ve collected many of the tributes to Starman, but Belew’s story is too good not to share on its own.

Adrian details a 1978 meeting with Bowie arranged by Brian Eno which led to the guitarist joining David for the Heroes Tour. Belew was on the road with Frank Zappa and Zappa was not happy to learn Bowie was trying to take Adrian from him. The guitarist describes a scene straight out of a spy movie in a Facebook post:
