Legendary musician David Bowie has died according to a message posted on his official website. Bowie had just turned 69 years old on Friday, January 8 – the same day he released final studio album ★ (Blackstar).
Born David Robert Jones in London, England on January 8, 1947, Bowie went to on amass a wildly successful career as a recording artist. His was known for hits such as “Changes,” “Heroes,” “Rebel Rebel,” “Fame,” “Young Americans” and many others, and for his personas Ziggy Stardust and The Thin White Duke. In 2013 he returned from a 10-year absence with the release of the new LP The Next Day. His final album, ★, was his 28th studio LP.
The full message posted to his website reads:
David Bowie died peacefully today surrounded by his family after a courageous 18 month battle with cancer. While many of you will share in this loss, we ask that you respect the family’s privacy during their time of grief.
