Adirondack Independence Music Festival Hosts Many Collaborations

This year’s Adirondack Independence Music Festival was held this past Saturday and Sunday at Charles R. Wood Festival Commons in Lake George, New York. Both headliners welcomed guests as part of an event filled with collaborations.

Twiddle ended the action on Saturday with two sets. Josh West added djembe to a cover of ALO’s “Barbeque” early in the first set and also contributed to the end of the “Atlantic Mocean” that followed. Later in the set, Twiddle unveiled the full band rendition of “River Drift,” a song frontman Mihali performed at past solo shows. West returned to augment the quartet on the “Frankenfoote” that opened the second set, while Lucid’s Lowell Wurster added washboard to “Cabbage Face” and “Subconscious Prelude” to end the frame. Keller Williams performed before Twiddle on the Improv Stage and teamed with Mihali for a cover of “Pepper” by Butthole Surfers.

Pigeons Playing Ping Pong closed out the festival with two Improv Stage sets on Sunday. The four-piece band brought out the Swift Technique Horns for “F.U.” > “Give It To Me Baby” > “F.U.” at the end of the first set. Pigeons’ second set included Pink Talking Fish keyboardist Richard James adding to the original “Cliffs” as well as a cover of Talking Heads’ “Once In A Lifetime” within. The quartet hadn’t performed “Once In A Lifetime” since 2015.

Richard James’ sit-in came after Pigeons Playing Ping Pong drummer Alex Petropulos made an appearance with Pink Talking Fish on “Nothing But Flowers” earlier in the evening. Other collaborations included James and his PTF band mate Zack Burwick performing with Wild Adriatic and Burwick guesting with Goose and lespecial.
