Dead & Company brought their inaugural tour to the DCU Center in Worcester last night, where they worked one Allen Toussaint’s most beloved songs into the second set. John Mayer sang “Get Out Of My Life, Woman” on a night that featured a total of five tour debuts.

The band, which features Mayer along with Bob Weir, Mickey Hart, Bill Kreutzmann, Jeff Chimenti and Oteil Burbridge opened with “Cassidy.” Mayer handled vocals on the D&C debut of “Row Jimmy.” Weir then fronted the group on “Ramble On Rose” and the D&C debuts of “Big River” and “Peggy-O.” John was back in the spotlight for “Sugaree” before Bobby led the first set-closing “The Music Never Stopped.”

Dead & Company kicked off the second set with “Deal” which led into “Uncle John’s Band.” Mayer’s guitar work shined once again in “Estimated Prophet” and a “Terrapin Station” that led into the night’s “Drums/Space” sequence. A cover of The Beatles’ “Dear Prudence” emerged out of “Space.” While the Grateful Dead never played “Dear Prudence,” it was a staple of both Garcia and Weir’s solo repertoires. Next up was the tribute to Toussaint, who passed away the previous evening. John Mayer sang “Get Out Of My Life, Woman,” which was also part of the Jerry Garcia Band repertoire. “Going Down The Road Feelin’ Bad” ended the set on an energetic note. Dead & Company concluded the show with a “Ripple” encore. Next up is a performance at the First Niagara Center in Buffalo tonight.
