Billboard reports that the band is currently working on booking the rest of the tour. MSG will be the opening show. Phish bassist Mike Gordon was asked to play as part of the project, but ultimately bowed out. “Mike has way more stuff on his plate than he can manage now. Oteil was a natural go-to and he’s more than up to the task,” Weir said. Billboard also reveals top-tier ticket prices for MSG will be below $100.

Sometimes rumors do become fact as is the case with a new band called . The sextet features Grateful Dead members Bill Kreutzmann, Mickey Hart and Bob Weir joined by bassist Oteil Burbridge, keyboardist Jeff Chimenti and guitarist John Mayer. The first confirmed show for Dead & Company is a Halloween gig at Madison Square Garden in New York City.
The confirmation came by way of a full page ad in the Village Voice, similar to the one shown above. While there’s no word in the ad about additional shows, it does point to a Dead & Company website that is not yet active so stay tuned for additional details. Phil Lesh is the only member of the Core Four not to participate. He’ll be performing that night with Phil Lesh & Friends at The Capitol Theatre in Port Chester, a mere 30 miles away.
Billboard made mention of the pairing back in April. Mayer went on to play two shows with Phil Lesh & Friends at Terrapin Crossroads in June not long after he welcomed and jammed with Weir on the Late Late Show during the guitarist’s stint as guest host.

[John Mayer helps Phil & Friends re-create Cornell ’77]
The Grateful Dead performed at MSG 52 times between 1979 and 1994. Madison Square Garden inducted the Grateful Dead onto the venue’s Walk Of Fame back in May at a ceremony attended by Weir and Kreutzmann. Tickets for Dead & Company at MSG go on sale via Ticketmaster on August 10 at 10 a.m. ET for American Express cardholders followed by the general on-sale August 14 at 10 a.m. ET.
