Steve Kimock’s five-show residency at Sweetwater Music Hall in Mill Valley, California continued on Sunday night, where Grateful Dead guitarist Bob Weir made a surprise appearance with his RatDog bandmate during portions of both sets.

Kimock was joined by a band that included Bobby Vega on bass, Jeff Chimenti on keyboards and vocals, Jay Lane on drums and Leslie Mendelson on vocals, keyboards and guitar. The quintet worked through “Cole’s Law,” “Bad Hair” and a cover of Crowded House’s “Don’t Dream It’s Over” before Weir emerged for the rest of the first set. Bobby sang and added to guitar to “Shakedown Street,” “Catfish John,” “Little Red Rooster” and “Blue Bayou” to end the opening stanza.

Weir came out with the group to start the second set with “New Minglewood Blues,” a cover of Kris Kristofferson’s “Help Me Make It Through The Night” and “Help On The Way” > “Slipknot!” After Bob departed the stage, Kimock and his crew continued on with covers of “Many Rivers To Cross,” “Don’t Let Me Down” and “You Can Leave Your Hat On.” Steve Kimock’s residency at Sweetwater continues on Tuesday night.
