Carter Herring & John Keane Guest With Widespread Panic

Last night was family night for Widespread Panic’s Jimmy Herring at Verizon Wireless Amphitheatre at Encore Park, where he shared the stage with both his son and his son-in-law by the end of the night.

Herring’s son-in-law is Duane Trucks, who’s been holding down the drum seat for Todd Nance on the Georgia rockers’ fall tour. Jimmy’s guitarist son Carter joined in the fray as part of a three-song encore, marking the younger Herring’s first on-stage appearance with the band. The encore started off with longtime Widespread Panic producer and frequent guest John Keane coming on to add guitar and vocals to “Degenerate.” Then Keane and the younger Herring assisted on “Me and the Devil Blues” as well as the “Time Is Free” that brought the show to a close. Panic’s visit to Alpharetta also featured rare covers of “Honky Red” (Murray McLauchlan) and “Green Onions” (Booker T. and the MGs).
