John Scofield Set to Join Medeski Martin & Wood Again

Medeski Martin & Wood have 14 shows currently on their itinerary and at each stop the trio will be joined by a guest guitarist. In addition to 10 European dates with Wilco guitarist Nels Cline, and the upcoming release of Woodstock Sessions (Vol. 2), MMW will also hit the road for four shows this June with long-time collaborator John Scofield. Medeski Scofield Martin & Wood, or MSMW, will start their run of shows on Tuesday, June 17 at San Francisco’s SFJazz Center with three additional Canadian dates the following weekend.

Back in January 2013, before boarding Jam Cruise 11 for their last appearance as a quartet, the four musicians spoke with JamBase about the possibility of future collaborations. 

Here’s what Scofield had to say then: “We’ve talked about MSMW doing more in 2014, whether that’s touring or recording or both, we haven’t discussed that yet. I have a new CD called Uberjam Deux that I just made. It’s [the next step of] my Uberjam project that’s coming out.”
 

While there is no official word on a new MSMW studio album, it certainly seems like there is one in the works as the band posted a photo from the studio back on January 7 that included Scofield with the caption, “Happy New Year Folks! We’ve been a little quiet on Facebook because we’ve been in the studio, working hard!” Scofield and keyboardist John Medeski will also cross paths as members of Phil Lesh & Friends during a three-night run at Brooklyn Bowl Las Vegas in April.
