Phish Lake Tahoe Setlist And The Skinny | Night Two

This evening, Phish finished off a two-night stand at Harvey’s Lake Tahoe Outdoor Arena in Stateline, NV. The quartet first played the scenic venue in 2011, when they visited for a two-night stand that August. With Apple co-founder Steve Wozniak in the house how would Phish close out the run? Let’s take a look:
After kicking off the show with the seventh “Chalk Dust Torture” of 2013, Phish dug deep into their repertoire for two tour debuts -“Camel Walk” and “Sparkle.” Ever-so-slightly jammed versions of ’13 staples “Back On The Train” and “It’s Ice” came next, before the quartet dusted off “Brian And Robert” for the first time since June 8, 2011 (83 shows). A string featuring the Mike Gordon/Scott Murawski-penned “Yarmouth Road,” a typically raging “Kill Devil Falls,” Page McConnell showcase “Lawn Boy,” another potent and stretched-out “Ocelot” and a dark and powerful “Stash” closed out the first set.
“Tweezer” opened the second set and it wasn’t long before the band broke through the song’s normal boundaries making for the most exploratory version of any song yet this tour. Around the fourteen minute mark, Phish settled in on an aggressive groove that along with the more spacey interlude that led to it made this “Tweezer” an instant classic and the version was far from over. Not content to move on yet, the quartet followed the anthemic peak with more ambiance and yet another blissful climax. A stunning 27 minutes into one of the more impressive pieces of improvisation of the era, the Vermonters involved the crowd with a start-stop segment that saw audience members squeal in delight during the breaks. Moving past the 30 minute mark, the band re-examined a couple of the jam spaces it has explored earlier including another start-stop bit and eventually returned to the Tweezer theme an unbelievable 36 minutes after they started the set. How do you follow a 36-minute Tweezer? With the much-beloved Gamehendge gem Tela of course. A scorching “Twist” kept the “T” songs coming, though “Architect” then broke up any thoughts of a “T Set.” There was still one more blast of improvisational fireworks in the works for the set-closing “Run Like An Antelope,” that featured more “Woos!” in the start-stop Marco Esquandolas segment. “Julius” and the highly-anticipated “Tweezer Reprise” served as the encore of a show that will forever be remembered for the “Tweezer.” Phish heads to the Bay Area next for a three-night stand at Bill Graham Civic Auditorium.
