Mike Gordon Performs New Original ‘Daisy Hill Grove’ In Houston

Phish bassist Mike Gordon is currently on the road with his five-piece band featuring guitarist Scott Murawski, keyboardist Robert Walter, drummer John Kimock and percussionist Craig Myers. On opening night in Austin, the group debuted two new Gordon/Murawski originals: “Daisy Hill Grove” and “Crazy Sometimes.” Gordon opened the second show of the tour with “Daisy Hill Grove” and fan-shot video of the performance at Numbers in Houston has surfaced.
Mike and Scott share vocals on the 10-minute-long original. Gordon mentioned in a recent interview that his latest batch of songs written with Murawski marks a “departure” from previous material and that holds true with the experimental “Daisy Hill Grove.” The tune mixes unusual composed sections with more open-ended grooves. Walter shines on electric piano, while Gordon provides a funky counterpoint as Murawski takes angular stabs at his axe throughout. Take a look at fan-shot video of “Daisy Hill Grove” from the Houston tour stop captured by Christopher Goff:
The tour continues tomorrow night at the Fonda Theatre in Los Angeles.
