Alabama Shakes began their first tour since 2017 at Chicago’s Salt Shed on Tuesday. Frontwoman/guitarist Brittany Howard, guitarist Heath Fogg, bassist Zac Cockrell and company offered four live debuts during their 21-song performance.
Alabama Shakes launched the show with “Future People,” from their Grammy-winning 2015 album, Sound & Color, which was also the last LP they released. The band performed all 12 tracks from Sound & Color in Chicago, including the Grammy-winning “Don’t Wanna Fight” along with favorites such as “Gimme All Your Love,” “Shoegaze” and “This Feeling” in the main set.

Toward the end of the set, the band performed Sound & Color cut “Drive By Baby” live for the first time. The Shakes also unveiled what appear to be two new songs, “Another Life” and “American Dream.” Additionally, Alabama Shakes offered a selection of tunes from their 2012 debut album, Boys & Girls, including “Hold On,” “Hang Loose” and “I Found You.”
After the “American Dream” debut and “Gemini” set-closer, the band returned for a three-song encore beginning with the title track off Sound & Color followed by the first performance of a song from the album, “Someday.” Alabama Shakes sealed the show with “Always Alright.”
