Last saw them 10 years ago at Alpine Valley. It was a sick show. I heard they most certainly can still bring it live, but they are more spotty and just have not turned out any good new material since "Before These Crowded Streets". Maybe the new album will be a change from that. RIP Leroi.

I re-evaluated my opinion of Dave after the run @ Alpine last Summer. Adding Jeff Coffin and Tim Reynolds to the band totally changed the dynamics of that band entirely. The jams were crafted much better and when they peaked, boy did they peak. Listening to Coffin & Reynolds trade licks was really something to witness. I don't know, I'd say give them another chance if you get a reasonably priced ticket.

I saw DMB open for Phish in 1990 something in birmingham.

the only time I have ever seen DMB.

It was tolerable, but that was when he was young and they did all old material of course.

the superjam when phish invited them out was pretty ok too.

I understand the Dave hating. He's got a voice that attracts 14 year old girls and frat kids, I get it. But look at it from another perspective; DMB is a kick ass band. The loss of Leroi was devastating for the music, my deepest regrets. Listen to some Dave and Tim; the jamming that goes on between the two of them is amazing, he contributes a lot to that band when he plays with them. Carter is a beast. Watch him play live hes got so much energy, as does Boyd. Sure they do have some songs that are so overplayed that they make you want to pull your ears off, but they can pull off a great live show, and as is obvious in this article, they tour with great bands. Dave was my first show in the eight grade and I saw them with a Bela fleck and the Flecktones opener, now one of my top bands. They played #41 for 36 minutes with Victor Wooten and It was the first time music moved me to something greater. You don't have to love them, but you gotta recognize.

I've seen my share of Dave but would consider seeing him again w/ Avett Bros. in Charlotte, since it's just an hour from home and we don't get shit in SC, so I looked up the ticket info just for kicks.

WTF?? WTF?? All ticket levels under the pavilion are $68! Front row, back row, it doesn't matter. Then, even the lawn where all the kids play in the mud is $38!! So I "proceeded to checkout" where they added fucking $13.25 each for what they call a "ticket fee" - like WTF is that b/c I thought the "ticket fee" was $38!!! Plus, add $2 for a "charity fee" - Look, I give to charities all the time, but on my terms and typically not at shows that are already raping me w/ high-priced tickets! What, out of a $38 ticket price and a $13.25 "ticket fee" they couldn't spare $2 for charity? Anyway...after all that shit, the grand total would be $106.50 for 2 tickets!!!

That's absolutely absurd and DMB can take these tickets and shove them up their blowholes! Who do they think they are, Journey?? Hahahaha!!

Maybe some of you should knock off the nonsense of thinking you know better what people SHOULD be listening to (bkandel and MPLS Night Marchers) and what's worth listening to. Sure, there are Dave fans who wouldn't know "good" music if it smacked them in the face because news flash, they aren't really music fans, but they're a lost cause so there's no point talking to them (and for the record, those people exist in every scene, they just get talked about a lot in the DMB scene). It's the fans on this website who are your audience, the ones who have varied music tastes and still like Dave, and we (I) find your comments pretty presumptuous and offensive. "Dave is not that good" - that's your opinion and you're entitled to it, but that's as far as it should go. I happen to have seen most of those bands y'all name multiple times and I'd pick a Dave concert over at least half of them any day. My educated and experienced opinion and I don't need you acting like you know better. Get over yourselves.

And on a positive note, looking very forward to the band's new material and seeing Tim and Jeff rip it up this summer.

DMB had a transitional year last year in their music, with the loss of Leroi, and the addition of Tim, and Jeff that band has completely changed. The basic music is still there but the sound that comes out is a totally new experience. If you havent experienced the new DMB I suggest you do

Most of the people bashing dave here are idiots. They just do it cause its "cool" to hate on Dave. Ive seen everyone "Jam Band" out there. Ive seen everything from the Beach boys to Slayer and all types of music in between and DMB is still the best live band out there. They are the most consistent. So all you haters come out of the closet! Its ok to tell your cool frat boy friends or your"phish is the greatest and only good band out there friends" that Dave rules! Hate on that biotches!

Dave's one of the best songwriters out there, stop being children! And anyone that saw their Rothbury set and says they didn't absolutely blow the roof off that shit is just in denial. Jeff Coffin on the Sledgehammer cover? Come on! Come on! That shit was awesome. I think all you guys are pissed because Trey wanted to be just like Dave after the Dave & Friends tour, and "write a #1 hit song" (i believe that's what the quote was). Then he released Shine, and the rest is history thank god!! Hopefully T-bone got that all out of his system, along with "ahem" some other stuff come March.

But to all you "i love phish, so i hate dave" people. Think about this; if you told Trey you thought dave matthews sucked balls and was the worst thing in music, he'd probably laugh at you, say that wrong, and then walk away. Open them minds up bitches!!

Yeah, Dave is awful. He has never played with any talented musicians in his life and has never had a fan base of more that frat boys and 14 year old girls. Who writes this crap. He has sale out crowds at each show, plays for wel over 2 hours during festivals and large venues, plays or has played with every jam band that you could throw out there, has the most respct from the music community and probably the best singer songwriter that my generation has to offer. Don't go off on your mushroom anticts and say they are finished or haven't put out a good recording studio album. Name one jam band that has in the last five years. Anyone who is intelligent knows that band make their living and names live and that is where Dave and the band shine and play their unrecorded music that keeps fans of music paying to see the good shows. Did anyone happen to cath the Mile High Music Festival last year? Tell me that wasn't worth the money. Dave haters are the worst just because they hate Satellite and all of the old girly songs and haven't picked up his live stuff since. get a life.

Well I am a Dave fan and have been going to his shows for years and years. I must say that this year is going to be a different story. In case Dave has not been paying attention, we are in a recession so he might want to think twice about his ticket prices. Also, the $15 service charge, go fuck yourself. Plus, Fresno and as another person mentioned, it looks like he is playing Outsidelands, been there, done that, no way. I wish they would have just scheduled a show back in sacramento since last years was cancelled instead of fucking Fresno. Oh well, High Sierra will be awesome and I think Dave will just be playing to a bunch of half full venues.

1. Alright! three nights of yonder at the Gorge!2. MASSIVE TOUR 3. I think of DMB as "gateway music" like a gateway drug, for regular pop radio listeners who go see him live and get their faces melted. When I was 13 or 14 years old all I had to listen to was radio(a damn shame) and besides my parents Floyd and Allman discs, it was the best instrumentation I had access to. Anyways, although I'm not a huge fan anymore, I can honestly say DMB live set me on my musical path to the bands I like today. (and yes the frat boy scene sucks.)

WOW! True DMB fans would not post such hate. C'mon times are hard! Negativity is what pollutes this world in the first place. To sing, dance & smoke, what else is there to do? To add Dave, Cater, Stefen & Tinsley to the mix makes a summer even better and is truly a gift of our generation. Even w/o Leroi on the saxophone (whose is indeed sorely missed), the band added Coffin, a truly gifted saxophonist!!! Can anyone match DMB's talent, notta, their lyrics and keys are tight, extremely hard to match & be duplicated. And not to mention, wow! ~ their Pink Floyd cover of "Money" was far out:) Peter Gabriel's "Sledgehammer" - what more can I say but looking forward to another summer back to back show at Nobelsville, possibly Alpine, DTE, Cinci, OH of course!!!! Again, DMB "Thank You (Falettinme Be Mice Elf Agin)".

TalkingRadioDeadhead^^ Good point, Aerosmith was my gateway band. I listened to classic rock radio just to hear more of them.

I'm not a huge Dave fan but I'm guessing a lot of haters here secretly enjoyed Live at Red Rocks when it came out. The band was the trendy thing for hot chicks to like for 96-00 and who doesn't want to get behind that?

dmb should be opening for umphreys. dmb should get rid of dave and then they would be 10 times better and i might actually go and pay to see them
