Austin's Fun Fun Fun Fest

The National
Transmission Entertainment is proud to announce this year's Fun Fun Fun Festival lineup. In the tradition of years past, FFF '08 once again teams punk rock legends with the hottest indie buzz bands, crowd-pleasing dance and hip-hop acts, and cutting-edge comedians. Fun Fun Fun Fest will be held November 8 and 9 at Waterloo Park in downtown Austin, TX. A two-day pass will be $59.99, available through Children under 10 get in free and discounts will be made available to all students.

Unlike other festivals held in the dead summer heat, Fun Fun Fun Fest is the premier fall festival – the perfect ending to an ever-growing summer festival season. In an effort to keep things, well, fun, festival planners are eyeing a circus tent of events, including a dunking booth with members of bands and other "celebrities." The Altercation Punk Rock Comedy troupe, Coldtowne Comedy Hour, Tim and Eric of Adult Swim's Tim and Eric Awesome Show and other comedy acts will also be on hand to entertain festival-goers looking for a break from the music.

FFF '08 showcases artists performing on four stages, expanding on last year's three-stage set-up. In addition to the indie, punk, and dance-themed stages, FFF '08 will feature a more intimate stage for solo artists like Oklahoma's El Paso Hot Button and the sure-to-be-popular "Revival Tour" featuring Ben Nichols (Lucero), Tom Gabel (Against Me!), Chuck Ragan (Hot Water Music), and Tim Barry (Avail) performing solo and together. Kevin Seconds of 7 Seconds and Walter Schreifels of Quicksand, Youth of Today and Gorilla Biscuits join the list of punk rock legends showing their softer side as solo acts. Austinites Shearwater, folksy emcee Tim Fite, and Adam Franklin (Swervedriver) and Sam Fogarino's (Interpol) new side-project Magnetic Morning headline the new, fourth stage.

Joining headliners Clap Your Hands Say Yeah, The National and Minus the Bear on the main stage are Atmosphere, St. Vincent, Deerhoof, Bishop Allen, locals Trail of Dead, Jim Ward's (Sparta) countrified Sleepercar, and a host of other hot new acts.

Punk and hardcore fans take note – Fun Fun Fun Fest is your festival, the festival where legends reunite. In addition to headliner Bad Brains, a reunited ALL, Dead Milkmen, Flipper (now featuring Krist Novoselic of Nirvana), Adolescents, Cro-mags (jam), and Integrity are set to remind concertgoers exactly why punk is punk.

To appease your hip-shaking alter egos, Clipse, Z-Trip, party-starting Dan Deacon, Dr. Octagon aka Kool Keith, IHeartComix's Franki Chan and locals Grupo Fantasma and Brownout star on this year's larger third stage.

Bringing together Austin's creative class, Fun Fun Fun Fest will once again offer festival goers the opportunity to get new haircuts, tattoos, vintage threads and more from local vendors who set up shop on festival grounds. Food and beverages will also be sourced from local providers, with more details to be announced soon. In addition, FFF '08 looks to work closely with local non-profits like Health Alliance for Austin Musicians and Grounded in Music.

This year, FFF will implement some of the newest applications in mobile technology. Stage schedules, maps as well as audio and video content from FFF artists will be right at the fingertips of FFF attendees' cell phones and PDAs.

Austin might be the best live music city in the US still. Every night there is more live music. Yeah, this festival looks weak, but these Texans in Austin shouldn't be confused with gun toting republicans either. The Red Fez Hookah Bar has some great folks and music, neither of which I could have otherwise even imagined.

This is meant to be the anti-festival of sorts. A very intimate setting in the middle of downtown on a crisp October weekend. Not much jam, but if you are into indie or punk at all, this is the place to be.

Sorry "Welcome- No Humor Allowed", I forgot that if a band plays actual music that does not have the bass turned to 11, it isn't really music. The first stage highlights some of the best bands in the indie music scene, stage two will make you laugh your ass off, stage three will punch you in the face, and stage four will make you shake yo' booty. I can't wait for this!

don't knock it before you try it. there are alot of really good *gasp* indie bands in this line-up, especially day 1. CLYSY, the annuals, atmosphere, and the spinto band are all really good. give it a try and i guarantee you'll dig at least one band that you didn't know...even if you won't admit it.

Wow, If I still lived in Austin I would totally check this out. I haven't listened to alot of these bands in a while but Bad Brains, All, DOA, Dead Milkmen, Bouncing Souls, etc. One hell of punk revival stage they put together!

To this day seeing the Dead Milkmen is one of my top 10 fun shows I've ever seen. Didn't realize they were playing out again since Dave Blood died. Plus a reunited ALL. Makes me want to buy a new skateboard and hit some ramps.

but on a better note, if i were in the vicinity i would go. it would definately be a good time. the comedy lineup looks awesome, so does most of stage 4 and 1. granted people like bonnaroo2rothbury guy would feel out of place without all the creeps who don't know when to put the vial down, but you trade those freaks for other, less burntout guys who don't know when to put the ink needle (among others) down. i'd say its a fair trade....
