SF's 12 Galaxies To Close

San Francisco's 12 Galaxies To Close Doors on August 28

San Francisco's 12 Galaxies will shut its doors for good on August 28. Opened five years ago by Robert Levy, the Mission club is suffering during this poor economy. This comes as sad news to the Bay Area's rich music community.

The last show at 12 Galaxies will be on August 28 featuring rising San Francisco rock band Big Light.

A complete list of remaining 12 Galaxies shows can be found here.

Ahh. That sucks!! I was all ready to see Garaj Mahal there on 9/26, but I guess that is not happening anymore. Hopefully they will change to the Independent or somewhere cool. AND it sucks because this place was walking distance to the best post-show mexican food in the world...open til 4am.

That really sucks for the good people of the Bay and beyond. The biggest bummer is that it was run by Heads for Heads...Robert is a solid dude. Thanks for the memories, 12 G's. It was fun while it lasted. "There's nothing you can hold for very long."

Man, that sucks! I've seen some great shows there... I love how you can look down at the bands on the balcony that goes all the way around upstairs. Let's hope The Independent, Great American Music Hall, and others don't suffer the same fate...

The 12 Galaxies was the first club I walked into when I loved into San Francisco, it also marked the spot where I met Robert Levy, who quickly became a friend and business partner. I met the mother of my child there and countless friends, not to mention I housed almost every single event I have ever done there. To see this news posted here today, although I have known for some time, makes me sad beyond words could express.

So many people put in so much of their lives at the club. Sean, Ameisha, Scott...but most of all...Robert Levy. I will forever be grateful to Robert for allowing me to treat the 12 Galaxies as my home and to encourage me in getting my shows together and providing a place to make them special. My life has changed because of my experiences at 2565 Mission St. It was my Cheers.

Terrible terrible news... I had noticed the club was getting more and more run down lately, figured the economy must be hitting it, but closing? There have been so many great shows there and I as well was really looking forward to the return of Garaj Mahal as well.

Big thanks to Robert though for all the great years as well as Falcor and everyone else who helped make it happen... At least we'll have the memories! Garaj Mahal getting freaky, those packed shows with ALO a few years back. New Monsoon w/Kimock, the recent emergence of Big Light, Hank & Celia's wedding way back when... and many more I'm forgetting...

Sad news. I really liked this club. It was the first place I went in San Francisco a few years back, seeing Conspirator. I went there quite a few times after and it always had a good atmosphere. I'll always remember the venue and the people friendships that were created here.

But, chin up San Franciscans, you still have a bunch of good music venues.

Bummer for all. I love Robert and what he was doing at 12Gs. Such a friendly, fun atmosphere. I saw some awesome shows there: New Monsoon, Steve Kimock and friends, Garaj Mahal, RAQ, Everyone Orchestra, Banyan, Skerik, Phil Lesh DVD release, Will Bernard, The New Masterounds, Railroad Earth. I will truly miss going there. Thanks for the memories, Robert!

That is sad news. I live a few blocks from there and always loved a cool local show in the neighborhood.

Robert - thanks for a great run, you made a helluva a go at it and there are many fantastic shows that I caught at 12 Galaxies that I will always remember from last year's Will Bernard cd release to Banyan to New Monsoon w/ Kimock and a whole lot more. Thanks also to the great staff. I am very sorry to see this place close...it was an excellent room. Where is Frank Chu gonna go for his free "...tasty Budweiser". Anyway - thank you for a real good time.

i meant this is what happens when VENUES stop selling high life. But if bands want to sell high life, by all means, go for it. Just don't ever stop.

Damn this sucks. This place really felt like home...from taking volcano rips upstairs, to all the great staff, to an array of music - punker or hippie or just music fan this is a sad day for SF music. Hell it was five years ago when my buddy Freddy and I checked out this unknown duo from NY...the Benevento Russo duo who have since gone on to bigger things...or that last minute Ryan Adams and Phil Lesh midnight show, the show was somewhat of a wreck but Robert is the only guy who could pull off something like that. This news is a bummer for sure. Good luck to all their employees and thanks for the memories.

Big Kudos to Robert Levy for being a key cog in the SF music scene, and a wonderful human being. Without Robert, many great bands would not have had the opportunity to showcase their talent. I will never forget the grand opening, NYE with NM and HBR, and the NM/Kimock run, when we had 10 people on stage, including the late/great Martin Fierro. Memories for a lifetime

While listening to Robert Levy's message on my cell regarding 12 Galaxies closing it's doors, immediately a host of amazing Shows, Musical Moments, faces of Friends & so many wonderful memories flashed through my mind. Robert gave so many Artists, Bands & Promoters an opportunity to thrive. Blue Turtle Seduction Thanks Robert Levy, his Staff & Crew for taking a huge risk on us for our Co-Promote 2 Night Stand for NYE 2007 !!! It was so much more than a Sold Out(& then some) successful Event. We were able to truly take flight on Mr Levy's Spacecraft for a solid 48+ hrs, after all it was the "Hitchhikers Guide to the 12 Galaxies". Thanks Man...

One of the last Shows @ 12 G's this Friday, August 15th will Present Hdlnr:

Blue Turtle Seduction w/Support: 5 Eyed Hand & the coup de gras Mr Trevor Garrod of Tea Leaf Green Solo to kick start this Bye-Bye Blow Out !!!

This is very sad news to me. I always loved this place and Robert has shown me many good times there. Thanks for the late night Wiffleball games with Dan Bern and all of the other great nights too!
