Dean Ween Group Honors Jerry Garcia by Performing A Cover Of ‘Stella Blue’

The Dean Ween Group Summer Tour came to the Jersey Shore on Saturday night for a show at the famed Stone Pony. Deaner and his crew welcomed special guest Nicole Atkins to share the stage and also celebrated Jerry Garcia’s birthday with a Grateful Dead cover.

While the current Dean Ween Group lineup features four-fifths of the longtime Ween touring ensemble joined by guitarist Scott Rednor, Rednor was unable to make it to the Stone Pony. Deaner rounded out his band for the night with frequent collaborators Guy Heller and Rev. Bill Fowler. At one point in the night Fowler led the group through a cover of the Grateful Dead’s “Stella Blue” in honor of Jerry’s birthday. The band shared soundboard audio of the cover on Facebook. Listen:

The show also featured a guest spot from Jersey Shore vocalist Nicole Atkins. Nicole fronted the group on Ween classics “She’s Your Baby” and “Stay Forever” both off 2000’s White Pepper album. Watch fan-shot video of Nicole’s sit-ins thanks to HeyItsBak3s:
