Slightly Stoopid: Chronchitis

By: Forrest Reda

With Chronchitis (Controlled Substance), SoCal road warriors Slightly Stoopid have made a surprisingly mellow album with no harsh punk rockers to fuck up the flow and just a touch of their past misogynist lyrics. With an assortment of producers like Mario C (Beastie Boys, Jack Johnson), Paul Leary (Sublime), Miguel (Sublime) and Chris D (G. Love) and guest musicians like G. Love, Gang Starr's Guru, Fishbone's Angelo Moore and Money Mark, the band appears to be embracing a more mainstream audience. But perhaps Slightly Stoopid, comprised of dual front-men Miles Doughty and Kyle McDonald, have earned the right to carry Sublime's musical torch after years of hard touring. Chronchitis is a steady flow of reggae, dub and West Coast surf-punk-pop that sounds good no matter what the weather.

so, like, did the reviewer even listen to the album? could be the worst "review" ever. way to be, dude.

I think we can deduce that the reviewer, by not saying that they loved it, probably hated it just in a polite way.

i'll review it. i listened to the first 20 seconds of a few of the songs. not worth it unless you like overproduced drum machines.

stoopid is the fucking shit and this album kicks ass. it's their best yet. love the newly added horns section (dudes from john brown's body). these guys finally dropped the punk scene and are making great reggae jams, almost even better than sublime in my opinion. so roll up a little somethin, sit on your porch, throw on this album and prepare to have found a new favorite band. also, if you like slightly and are in the san diego area go check out elephants in mud, a great new up and coming reggae band from indiana.
