Slightly Stoopid: Chronchitis

With Chronchitis (Controlled Substance), SoCal road warriors Slightly Stoopid have made a surprisingly mellow album with no harsh punk rockers to fuck up the flow and just a touch of their past misogynist lyrics. With an assortment of producers like Mario C (Beastie Boys, Jack Johnson), Paul Leary (Sublime), Miguel (Sublime) and Chris D (G. Love) and guest musicians like G. Love, Gang Starr‘s Guru, Fishbone‘s Angelo Moore and Money Mark, the band appears to be embracing a more mainstream audience. But perhaps Slightly Stoopid, comprised of dual front-men Miles Doughty and Kyle McDonald, have earned the right to carry Sublime’s musical torch after years of hard touring. Chronchitis is a steady flow of reggae, dub and West Coast surf-punk-pop that sounds good no matter what the weather.
