As we mentioned last month, iconic guitarist Jimi Hendrix is set to appear on a United States Postal Service stamp. An image of the stamp has been shared by Rolling Stone this morning.

The USPS unveiled the stamp just in time for SXSW after three years of planning. Following the release of the Jimi stamp, the USPS will release the next stamp in the Music Icon series, featuring Janis Joplin, in August. “Jimi was probably the most photographed artist of his time, and he looked so different every year. He was in the public eye for only four years, but every year he looked so different – his hair, how he wore his clothes, different hats and scarves. I think the stamp really reflects who he was,” Jimi’s sister Janie told Rolling Stone.

As for a potential John Lennon stamp, which would be the first one featuring someone born outside of the U.S., USPS director of stamp services Susan McGowan told Rolling Stone, “We do try to focus on people who are American or things that are American, but we also focus on subjects and themes that truly changed American culture. The Beatles and John Lennon had a huge impact on our country and culture.”
