Sammy Hagar Talks Van Halen And Grateful Dead With Howard Stern

Yesterday, Sammy Hagar visited SiriusXM's The Howard Stern Show and sat for an hour-long interview. Hagar spent most of the interview talking about his time in Van Halen, but early in the chat revealed "I almost was in the Grateful Dead! Bob (Weir) and Mickey (Hart) wanted me in The Dead when Jerry was gone for a while." Sammy is Weir's neighbor and has jammed with members of The Dead on many occasions, including one of the first "The Dead" shows on Valentine's Day in 2003.

Howard pushed Hagar to talk about his departure from Van Halen and took a call from the band's former bassist, and close friend of Sammy, Michael Anthony to discuss their time in Van Halen. The pair told a number of stories about the "Van Hagar" years including the first time Sammy jammed with the band. Sammy also detailed his "mental experience" with aliens. Take a listen to the whole conversation:
