Back in April Robbie Robertson shared the good news that he
was working on a deluxe reissue of The Band's outstanding 1972 live album Band Of
Ages and three months later it looks like we finally have a release date. The Band Live At The
Academy Of Music 1971 is set for a September 17th release, according to a listing
There aren't many details on the Amazon.com page yet, but here's what we know: The Band Live At The
Academy Of Music 1971 is spread out over four audio CDs and one video disc. The
first two CDs are labeled as "Live At The Academy Of Music 1971 - The Rock Of Ages
Concerts mixed by Bob Clearmountain." We're excited to hear what famed mix engineer
Clearmountain, who's worked with every big name in the industry, has done with the
original Rock Of Ages mix. Discs 3 and 4 are labeled "New Year's Eve At The Academy
Of Music - Soundboard Mix," that sure seems like the soundboard recording of The Band's
December 31, 1971 finale of the four-night run from which Rock Of Ages was culled.
Then there's the video disc and we look forward to the announcement of the track listing.
The only video from these shows that has been released was this clip of "Don't Do It" from
A Musical History...
We'll keep you posted on this long-awaited release from The Band's archives as details
