O’Death Tour Journal: 11/16-11/26

Editor’s Note: O’Death, our favorite Brooklyn Appalachian hardcore goth-country band, has offered to take us back stage, onto the stage, into the van, back to the hotel and out on the town with them through the O’Death Tour Journal. Currently doing dates across the country until December, each week the O’Death boys will be reporting back to JamBase with an insider’s look at life on the road. Everything you read and see comes straight from the band. Stay tuned for weekly updates.

And alas, when we became a spacial anomaly, we thought it the end of our young lives, but in the Vortex we were much surprised and elated to find ourselves Alive.

However, upon acquainting ourselves with this Netherworld we were faced with a formidable wizard foe, the Evil Master Weissmanster,

who kidnapped our poor bassman, Noodles The Destroyer.

Our own valiant, Gabriel Vaughn Darling, faced off with the evil wizard.

A strange turn of events occurred when our brave Gabe payed dearly by being turned into this guy, Henry, from the band, Hillstomp.

We miss Gabriel, and we applaud his selfless sacrifice in the name of justice and mega-basslines to rescue Noodles The Eradicator. But shit happens, right. Maybe we’ll try to go on with Henry.

…Nah

Tour over (not pictured).

After enjoying a crisp Utah morning, and suffering a debauched country breakfast, we noticed Newman (not pictured) was missing.

We spotted him being carried off by shadowy figures in flowing robes.

“HAULT!” I shouted in my gruffest manor (pictured).

The figure at the back of the pack turned around. His eyes exploded with flashing light. “Vostrum Nectus!” his demon voice encanted.

The world began to twist and the ground opened up. We were sucked in (pictured).

Unfortunately we are now squashed into a quantum singularity.

OK, that’s enough for now. More updates soon. If you happen to attend one of our shows, please come speak with us. We may seem a little unapproachable at first, but we’re much friendlier after we play.

Friday November, 14

We just arrived in beautiful Denver, Colorado. It’s always exciting to pull into this town because it means we’re finally out West. And while we enjoy playing in the Midwest, the scenery is simply so much more impressive once you hit the Rockies.

I was so very psyched to be in Denver, and I walk into The Larimer Lounge where our gig is tonight and the (beautiful) bartender is the spitting image of our dearly departed Eliza, which filled me with lust and sadness all at the same time. I didn’t have the balls to talk to her though. Hah, some things will never change.

Here’s Gabe at our record release party at the Music Hall of Williamsburg:

This is a video from Halloween night [read the review here] in Philadelphia, posted to YouTube by lordshinjuku. It is of typical YouTube quality but it’s very recent and captures us playing one of our favorite songs, “Vacant Moan.”

Besides that, we’ve been trying to stay out of trouble.

I got a tattoo in Cleveland under illegal circumstances that I will not disclose here. Got to protect the ones we love!

Obama was announced winner of our presidential election while we were onstage in Toronto. That was a pretty amazing moment I will remember for the rest of my life. We had the privilege to announce Obama’s victory to a room of 300+ Torontians. Totally fucking rad.

We immediately celebrated with a particularly rambunctious rendition of our song “Legs To Sin,” which was very appropriate because it’s a song about bondage and we were celebrating a presidential election. I don’t think I’ve ever had reason to celebrate a presidential election, so what else to celebrate with than a song about rough sex? It was all the more joyous as we were joined onstage by our friends from Hoots and Hellmouth.
