By Scott Bernstein Feb 19, 2017 • 12:53 pm PST
Colorado jamgrass act Yonder Mountain String Band continued a run of co-bill shows with G. Love & Special Sauce on Saturday night at the House Of Blues in Dallas. Yonder’s set included the band’s first cover of the Grateful Dead classic “Fire On The Mountain” since 2012.
The five-piece kicked off their set with an “Around You” sandwich on “Winds Of Wyoming” bread. Yonder mixed covers and originals throughout one long set. Covers included Billy Joel’s “Travelin’ Prayer” and Bill Monroe’s “Kentucky Mandolin,” while “Don’t Worry Happy Birthday” and “Landfall” were among the originals played. YMSB ended the set with their take on Bruce Springsteen’s “It’s Hard To A Saint In The City” featuring “Fire On The Mountain” and “Landfall” within. Last night’s “Fire” was Yonder’s first version of the tune since performing at Phil Lesh’s Terrapin Crossroads venue on August 3, 2012. The band said farewell with an encore of Lou Reed’s “Walk On The Wild Side.”
