Yo La Tengo Covers Neil Young For ‘Spotify Singles’

Yo La Tengo recently visited Spotify Studios in New York City to record a session for the Spotify Singles ongoing series. The trio performed a song from their new album There’s A Riot Going On and covered a Neil Young classic.

Ira Kaplan, Georgia Hubley and James McNew gave a live in-studio performance of “Shades Of Blue,” which was one of 15 tracks on the self-produced There’s A Riot Going On. The album marked their first release of all new material since 2013’s Fade.

The trio incorporates a wide variety of covers into their live shows and annual WFMU pledge drive. For Spotify Singles they came up with an arrangement of Young’s “Time Fades Away,” which first appeared on the 1973 live album of the same name.
