Wilco Welcomes Margaret Glaspy & Julian Lage In Asheville

Wilco wrapped up the October portion of their 2017 tour on Monday night at the historic Thomas Wolfe Auditorium in Asheville. Jeff Tweedy & Co. collaborated with guitarists Margaret Glaspy and Julian Lage towards the middle of their 29-song performance.
The attentive Asheville audience hung on every note throughout Wilco’s career-spanning concert at the beautiful venue. Sky Blue Sky’s “You Are My Face” served as the opener and the album was one of ten represented at one point throughout the evening. Tweedy wasn’t in much of a talkative mood, but he made it count when he did chat, often cracking up the crowd with talk of “snot bubbles” and brain farts.
Guitarist Nels Cline had plenty of turns in the spotlight, as he especially shined on “Art Of Almost,” “Bull Black Nova” and “Impossible Germany.” Margaret Glaspy opened the concert and brought out her boyfriend, jazz guitarist Julian Lage, for a portion of her set. Tweedy introduced Lage who showed off his impressive skill set on “Forget The Flowers.” Jeff then said it was time to bring out the “whole family” as Glaspy joined in for a fun romp through “California Stars.”
Wilco played for two-and-a-half-hours including a pair of encores. The first encore was a five-song affair featuring the fitting “Monday,” a singalong “Jesus, Etc.” and more. After a wild reception, Wilco returned for a second encore that started with a tribute to Tom Petty in the form of “The Waiting.” Wilco debuted the Petty cover last week and has played the cover at each show since. The band then said farewell with “The Late Greats.”
In November, Wilco has four shows on the docket before they are expected to take 2018 off to focus on studio work and solo projects.
