Gaelynn Lea Guests With Wilco In St. Paul

By Scott Bernstein Nov 25, 2019 8:58 am PST

Wilco welcomed violinist Gaelynn Lea and members of her band to help close out the pre-Winterlude portion of their fall tour on Sunday night at the Palace Theatre in St. Paul. Lea was in the house as support for the evening, which was Wilco’s third consecutive show at the Palace.

Last night’s concert opened with the pairing of “Bright Leaves” and “Before Us” from Wilco’s 2019 studio album, Ode To Joy, just as the other nights began. The band did change it up a bit by including the run’s first versions of “One Wing,” “If I Ever Was A Child,” “How To Fight Loneliness” and “Summer Teeth” within their main set.

Gaelynn Lea was on hand when Wilco kicked off their encore with Ode To Joy track “An Empty Corner.” Lea then took part in a version of “California Stars” that also featured her band mates Dave Mehling and Al Church on percussion. Wilco went on to end the night with classics “I’m Always In Love” and “I’m A Wheel” with the latter the first of the St. Paul run.
