Wilco Covers Daniel Johnston In Berlin

By Scott Bernstein Sep 13, 2019 9:51 am PDT

Wilco honored Daniel Johnston, the acclaimed singer-songwriter who died earlier this week, by covering “True Love Will Find You In The End” as the penultimate song of last night’s concert in Berlin. The band’s performance on Thursday took place at Berlin’s Tempodrom.

Daniel Johnston originally released “True Love Will Find You In The End” on 1985’s Retired Boxer. Jeff Tweedy and company first performed the song on August 18, 1997 at Merriweather Post Pavilion in Columbia, Maryland and covered the tune 26 more times as per Setlist.FM. Last night was the first time Wilco played “True Love Will Find You In The End” since September 3, 2016 besides a performance earlier this summer sung by fan Bailey during their karaoke set at the Solid Sound Festival. No mention of Johnston was made last night according to a fan report on the Via Chicago message board.
