Last October, Wilco stopped by KCRW to perform a live session at the radio station’s Apogee Studio in Santa Monica, California. The band’s set focused mostly on material from their 2023 album, Cousin, alongside a few other songs from their extensive catalog of original music.
Wilco frontman Jeff Tweedy was also interviewed by Morning Becomes Eclectic co-host, Anthony Valadez. During the discussion about Cousin, Wilco’s 13th studio album, Valadez asked Tweedy about working with producer Cate Le Bon on the record.
“Cate has a really meticulous palette of these sort of icy tones and synths,” Tweedy replied. “It’s course. Course bass, course, thin-sounding guitars… really a new palette for us. I think it still sounds like Wilco, but that it sounded like Wilco with a new lighting director, or something like that.”

Wilco’s live session began with the Cousin track, “Pittsburgh.” Tweedy and his bandmates – guitarist Nels Cline, bassist John Stirratt, drummer Glenn Kotche, keyboardist Mikael Jorgensen and multi-instrumentalist Patrick Sansone – played four additional Cousin songs, “Infinite Surprise,” “Sunlight Ends,” “Evicted” and “Meant to Be.”
The set also included “Handshake Drugs” from the 2004 album, A Ghost Is Born and a trio off selections from their 2022 album, Cruel Country, “I Am My Mother,” “Bird Without a Tail / Base of My Skull” and the title track.
