Wilco returned to the KEXP studios for a live session this past October in between nights of a two-show run at Seattle’s Paramount Theatre. Frontman Jeff Tweedy and his bandmates delivered a four-song set featuring material from their new album, Cousin, for the Seattle-based independent radio station’s Live On KEXP series. Video was shared on KEXP’s YouTube channel today and can be viewed below.

Cousin was released by Wilco on September 29, just a few weeks before their visit to KEXP. The band — Tweedy, guitarist Nels Cline, bassist John Stirratt, keyboardist Mikael Jorgensen, multi-instrumentalist Pat Sansone and drummer Glenn Kotche — tapped Cate Le Bon to produce the 10-track effort. Le Bon was the first outside producer to helm a Wilco album since 2004’s Sky Blue Sky.

The sextet opened their Live On KEXP set with the slow-burning “Pittsburgh,” a song initially worked on during the sessions that yielded 2019’s Ode To Joy. Next came the poignant “Levee” along with the title track from Cousin. Wilco closed out the set by performing the hard-hitting “Soldier Child.” Jeff Tweedy then spoke with KEXP host Cheryl Waters about the making of Cousin and how Wilco adapted the songs to the live stage.
