Watch The Last Song Widespread Panic Played Before Starting Unplanned Hiatus

Widespread Panic rolled out official video of their show-closing performance of “Postcard” from the final night of their latest visit to Colorado’s famed Red Rocks Amphitheatre. Little did anyone know then that the song would be the last one the band would play in 2024.

Spirits were high on June 23, 2024 when Panic ended their annual three-night stand at Red Rocks with the band’s 72nd consecutive sold-out show at the venue. The sextet slayed at the idyllic amphitheater and had even given Colorado fans an extra helping as they opened for The Rolling Stones in Denver one night before the Red Rocks run began.

Everything changed less than one month later when Widespread Panic announced Jimmy Herring's cancer diagnosis. The guitarist needed to undergo treatment for stage 1 tonsil cancer leading the band to cancel their July concerts in Asheville, North Carolina. Over the following few weeks, WSP canceled all of their 2024 tour dates to give Herring more time to seek treatment and recover.

Good news eventually followed in October as Widespread Panic announced their first shows since Herring was diagnosed with cancer. The band will return to the stage February 14 – 16 in Atlantic City, New Jersey. Additional 2025 performances have been confirmed for March in St. Augustine (Florida) and April for Nashville.

This all brings us back to the “Postcard” from June 23, 2024, which still stands as the most recent song performed by Widespread Panic. “Postcard” is among the band’s oldest tunes and has been a staple of the WSP repertoire for nearly 40 years.
